Teaching Philosophy

I believe that the best educators inspire their students while effectively transferring knowledge. Furthermore, I find significant value in reinforcing the fundamentals. In my courses I draw on the broad array of research opportunities and life experience that I have had to customize my course examples, assignments, and exams for the benefit of my students. Much of the work I do with student in the classroom is collaborative, building their confidence with the material before doing assignments or taking exams independently. I do not believe that rote memorization is a productive teaching strategy, nonetheless I require students to take exams independently to assess their overall level of comprehension and knowledge based on the material.
